Dont know which way to go!!!!!

Ok i got a call from a collection agency out of wyoming (lived there 5+ yrs ago) (i now live in missouri) Anyway they said i had 7 accounts that were "just" turned over to collection (they are not on my credit reports that i see) ...These accounts are from 1995-1996 1997 Being that these are so old why werent they turned over before....I mean if i havent paid these in 6+ years why would they Just NOW turn them over? Can i do a validation letter ?? Will this help or hurt me?? Like i said these are so old But from what i gather SOL in wyoming is 10 years so i have to wait another 3 or 4 yrs before i can use that in my defense correct?? What should i do I dont have the money to pay them off Should I sit on it and ignore it try and make payments to them?? HELP!!! I have been trying to clear my credit for over a year Trying to buy a house and got most of it taken care of now this....... Any advise ..input would be appreciated.......Thanks
