Can credit cards be canceled on you if you have good credit?

Hi, does anyone know if your credit card can be closed / your credit limit reduced if you don't use the card very much? My credit is very good - I always pay in full on time. A friend told me to keep this extra credit card that I barely use open so that I would have a lower debt-equity ratio?, but I'm worried that since I don't use the card much, the credit card company might just decide not to reissue a new card to me when the current one expires. In that case, wouldn't it be better just to cancel my card before they cancel it for me?
