Hey JS,
Gulf State did the exact same thing to my husband and I. We are in the process of going through a mortgage and we were applying last year and all of a sudden Gulf state appeared on our credit reports and it is funny, We have the same dates, ours is for a at&t broadband account for $138 for 5/97. We have never been contacted by them and they gave us a line that they sent it to an old address. We never had this account.
Anyway through research I found 2 #'s 1-877-321 -1856 then they gave me 1-800-523-7043.

Advice on this forum says do not contact them, send them a letter asking for validation of the debt. Dispute it with the credit bureaus.

Good luck with you on this, we are in the same situation and it is really worrying us about our credit score.
