I haven't received anything in writing from the bank as of yet. They never sold or assigned the account to a collection agency, so they still own the account.

So far I haven't been able to find any verifable records other than my handwritten lists of debts outstanding (by the way, these lists were kept by me with the intention that if I ever got back on my feet again, I would clear up my old debts even if I hadn't heard from the creditors in a long time -- I found a payoff notation I had written on a list in 1996, but haven't found any notations whatsoever regarding the loan on any list after 6/97. This is why I am positive that the loan was paid.) I explained all of this to them yesterday and asked that they send me a detailed account history so that I could check into this further. She said she would. I am also hoping that the records will show exactly when I started to fall behind in my payments. If memory serves me correctly, I was playing the 'catch up' game on this account for most of 1996 and that most of my payments were over 30 days late.
