Back in 1995,while serving in the army and stationed in Panama, I opened a secured capital one credit card account. I opened it with $250.00 and was given a $700.00 limit. I closed that account while still stationed in Panama, and sent capital one over $800.00.
At the time I closed the account they kept my initial $250.00 plus the over $800.00 in sent in American Express money orders. It wasn't until 1998 when I tried to purchase a house that I found out that capital one never closed out this account and was charging me interest and reporting this account as in default. I immediately was told by capital one to pay them $1500 more dollars and they would take it off my credit report. From 1998 to now i couldn't find my reciepts, three weeks ago I wrote capital one again and sent three of my reciepts as of yet I haven't had a response from them. In my opinion some of these so-called credit grantor are only preying on the weak and uneducated. Over the last five years I have wrote capital one at least every 4 to 6 months attempting to correct this matter to no avail. three weeks ago I also forwarded my correpsondace to my state attorney generals office.
