I would file a police report on the check. You were notified to stop payment by the business because of some fraudulent activity. The check was likely misappropriated and cashed at a check cashing place or something like that. They automatically turn checks over to ca's. Speak to the business and find out if there is a poice investigationof their problem. Informthem that if they don't cooperate you will sue them for defamation of credit.
