Collection agencies are required to follow the rules and regulations of the FCRA.
Did they give you notice of your entitlement to dispute?
What State are you in?
When did you FIRST become delinquent (late) on the Providian account?
How is it shown on your credit report(charge off date?)
You don't have to deal with Mr. Obnoxious. Send a cease and desist/dispute/validation letter rrr.
