Question about cease and desist letter

I defaulted on a GM Mastercard account about 9 months ago and just recently they began calling up to 15 times a day and one collection rep said Son of a B**** on my answering machine because he thought I hung up on him. Constant calls to my family members regarding this account. I recently sent a cease and desist letter to the company. Can a cease and desist letter be enforced if it is the original creditor?? I read the fair debt collection act and it makes no mention as to writing the letter to the original creditor or collection agency...It just states "debt collector" Please help..... want these calls to stop.
