Whatever settlement you make, it will likely extend the "bad credit" on your credit reports a additional 7 years. At this point the account is due to drop from your reports in July 2003,or earlier if you dispute it.Unless you live in Wyoming or Rhode Island,your statute of limitaton for being sued has passed.(lawsuit sol's date from your first "late notice" unless you caught up-to date afterwards)
Take whatever money you were planning to "settle" with and give it to your favorite charity if your conscience won't allow you to use it on your family. The credit system is set up to penalize those who want to "settle".
