Thanks for your response! Where to start?

I was denied employment back in Jan and received a copy of the report from the potential employer. Requested my own copy and found GS. Never heard of them or received anything from them trying to collect the debt.

I have sent 2 letters return receipt requested and have gotten my green cards back.

The debt was from Citibank - had some credit problems in the mid/late 90's - my account was sent to a collection agency. Paid the debt in 2/99. I have copies of my carbonless checks and the bank statements showing the check cleared.

Made numerous calls to GS telling me that they have a right to report because I didn't pay the debt the whole time they have had it - told me to contact their lawyers office in East Hanover - which I promptly "called his bluff" by asking if it was a lawyer or a another collection agency and telling him I was going to go visit this lawyer and deliver my documention personally. I got placed on hold and the GS rep came back and said it is just another agency. (I just had to have some fun with it since I know I was in the right and I knew this guy was lying to me). GS just "sold" this debt recently.

GS refuses to delete the entry from my credit report on the basis that I did not pay the debt when they "owned" it.

Talked to Citibank the other day and found out they don't ever sell debts only assign them out and they have no idea how GS got the debt since they are showing paid/settled/current. The Citibank rep actually called GS while I was on hold with them and they are the ones that suggested that I contact a lawyer in addition to filing a complaint with the FCC. He is sending me out another paid letter and I should receive it early next week.

Citibank is reporting correctly and I accept responsiblity for that, but now I have GS and a another collection agency reporting all on the same debt on my credit report.

I am actually a "displaced" New Yorker living in in the Lumberton/Mt. Holly area of Jersey and loving it! Everything is 1 hour away or less!

I posted my e-mail - write me there if you want.
