Providian suing me. Need advice

I fell a few months behind in paying my Providian bill, so decided to sue. Untill now I hadnt had the means to pay them back, however I have someone that is willing to front the money. The bill was for like $4300.00 , but their lawyers want me to pay for their part which is another $1000.00!! A court date has be set, can I get out of this and the $1k charge by just paying Providian in full what I owe? Any advice is greatly appreciated....
