Process for filing a judgement

I have a third-party (attorney's) office that is threatening to file a law suite against me and a judgement against my property. I live in the state of Georgia and am wondering how long that process may take them. Do they need to hire an attorney in the same state? What is the filing process and time frame for doing so. Can I sell anything once they have filed an application? Please advise. Thank you!
