Unfortunately only New York City has a requirement that paid debts come off after 5 years.(The CRA'S have extended this to all of N.Y. so as to avoid error) You can try sending a verification request to the CRA's and asking your "friend" to respond by saying the informtion is not correct,(don't let him say it was paid). Or he could just not respond.
