I owe Sears a little over $8,000. Most of it, as you all know from personal experience, late charges and finance charges. I had tried to cancel the card numerous times but was told that to cancel, I would have to pay the entire amount. So, after experiencing some financial setbacks a year ago, I stopped paying. I was contacted by Sears, at work, and told them that I would have my car paid off in November, that I couldn't even begin to talk to them about money until then. They had told me that if I made 3 payments of $150 each, my account would be considered current. I told them that the interest charge on the account was more than $150, why would I do that and get in the same predicament again.
Anyway, I was served with court papers last Tuesday. I have a week and a half to file a written response to the court, either doing it myself of getting a lawyer.
Has anybody actually gone to court? Is there a chance that the judge might not have me pay the entire amount? Is it too late to negotiate with the lawyers?
Thanks
k
