Ahhh, I don't know! Check the papers you signed when you rented the car. If it isn't mentioned there, take it up with the bank. I just don't use a debit card because of the things I've heard. Examples: One girl paid for her sister's medicine (over the phone via debit card) at a pharmacy in another state from where she lived. 6 months later, the sister wrote a rubber check to the pharmacy, and the pharmacy debited the first girl's account for the bounced check!! A lady here where I lived stopped to get gas at a large gas station, which also offers fleet services (commercial accounts). When she used her debit card they authorized for $200. She only pumped a few dollars worth of gas. The authorization stayed for several days, and she was completely unaware of the amount. Her mortgage check bounced. (This was on the news). Sorry, I know you didn't ask for examples. ;) Linda couldn't resist.
