jeff, same thing happened to my sis, as you know, NYS allows service of summons and complaint by the PLAINTIFF via normal US class A post, to last known address, well my mom came to stay with me for a month after the birth of my son, put a 30 day hold on the mail, well the CA, sent the service to moms address, sis didnt get it, no idea she had a default judgement against her all w/in 30 days, didnt know till she went to the atm, the CA wiped out everything, she was literally without a dime, couldnt pay rent, anyway, the debt originally was charged off by discover for 2,500, CA had always reported it as 2,600, got a judgement for 5.131, put a lien on her bank acct for 10,000,,,, to this day we dotn understand how they had the right the put a lien for 10,000 and change,,,, ????? was this legal? I am mean can they lien for double the judgement????
