Serious problem with creditors illegally contacting parents! HELP SOON!

I have recently been contacted by Creditors Interchange about a 2 year old Visa debt that i owe 1500 on with interest. I was informed by the man i spoke with that he told my parents about the specifics of it. I am 22 years old and DO NOT live at home. I told the man i spoke with taht this was a FTC violation and he is liable to sued for up to $1000. I NEED to know more about this. My stepmother asked questions, and he answered them. I was under the impression that he isn't legally allowed to do anything but provide a phone number and say it is urgent that I call, if he isn't speaking directly to me. PLEASE HELP SOON! Very delicate matters with my parents at stake.
