Warning! Dillard's dept. stores recently called me with an offer for a store credit card, which I politely declined, then inpolitely declined. They asked if they could "send me the information package, understanding that I was in no way obligated to use this card" Fine, I said, send me the information--just to get them off of the phone. Well, 10 days later, my new Dillard's CC arrives with a welcome letter, blah...blah....blah...22%APR...blah...UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO ACCEPT/USE THIS CARD. I don't know why I bothered to even open it--but I immediately took the scissors to it. I (stupidly) threw the letter away, but saved the cut up CC. Well, PRESTO, yesterday, my TU Credit Report changed. I now have an account with Dillard's--it has no limit listed and has active/never late. It really pi**es me off that they did this. Furthermore, I have a "hard" inquiry on my TU report from this little scam now. I am absolutely furious. Is there any way that I could have unknowingly given them a legal right to examine my CR and open an account for me that I never asked or applied for and I DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT?!! :-( What steps should I take regarding this scam?
