They may try - but disability payments are exempt from garnishment. And, of course, you can prove that the funds direct deposited are in fact disability payments. If you have a complaint against the treating physician you should file a complaint (both for malpractice and overbilling). Ask for an itemized bill of "ALL" the charges. On another note, I tend to believe all parents are responsible for the medical care of minor children by law (in virtually every state)regardless of who signed for the surgery. This may fall under Florida statutes re: a parents responsibility to provide food, medical care and shelter for their minor children.
