Sometimes you can submit an agreement to pay a certain amount in each month - signed by you and the creditor before the case actually goes to court. Your reasons must be feasible. Always send anything like this by registered mail - return receipt or priority mail with delivery confirmation for documentation. If the creditor refuses to respond at least you can present to the court that you wanted to make reasonable payments but the creditor refused to respond. If you're LUCKY maybe the judge will not enter a judgement providing you pay on time every month until the debt is paid.
