If you DON'T pay, it will come off your credit reports 7 years after the first reported "late" date. If you DO pay (settle) it will be on your report 7 years from your settlement date. PLUS if the unpaid amount is over $600. you will get a 1099 for it and have to pay taxes. If they tell you you won't have to pay taxes, it will be because they have resold the balance to another ca.
