Going Crazy

I have credit debt totalling over $40K and had lost my job about 6 mos ago due to an injury. I was making very good money before my termination, thus the debt wasn't a big deal until now. I have almost depleted my savings trying to keep up with this debt, my college tuition, and the basic necessities of life (which has been greatly reduced). I am pretty much current up to now with my bills (a few late due to juggling) and have enough cash reserves to maintain my car note for 6 mos and with any spare (last of 401K) cash would like to negotiate with my creditors for a settlement or something. My credit is very good, I own property, but I do not have enough equity to get any type of HEquity loan and would probably not qualify due to my employment status, which is part-time + unemployment (peanuts). I am starting to get worried due to the current job market and would like to know what are my options here in Texas. If I could just get rid of these cards I know that I can weather the storm - but for now it will most likely be around 4-6 mos. before I really start to panic. Any help to avoid the coming onslaught would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
