No it is illegal to record conversations without first getting your permission. They MUST ASK you! If you do not give your permission they must disable the recording device. Any dealings with CA's should always be by written correspondence sent registered return receipt mail. If you do talk with them tell them YOU ARE RECORDING the conversation.
