SOL almost up and just been contacted....

Hi! We live in Texas. Yesterday, we found out that Park Danes (sp?) put a mark on our credit report for a debt with MCI. (we are not even sure it is ours ) This never showed up on our credit report, 2 years ago when we bought our house. It showed up yesterday when we applied at a mortgage company to re-finance. Anyway, the credit report said that it was first reported in 08/1998. I know that the SOL in Texas is 4 years. So, In 08/2002 the SOL will expire. The only thing is, we contacted MCI yesterday and asked them to send up proof that we owe this money. Did we screw ourselves by doing this? Or can we stall them until 08/2002 so that they can no longer seek payment from us?
