I received a call from an attorney's office regarding a debt owed to Circuit City. I have not received anything from either of them and no statement from Circuit City for over a year. The attorney is threatening civil warrant, garnishment, etc. I got her to fax me a letter and all it stated was the payment arrangement she offered, etc. They are in Alabama, I am in Georgia. Shouldn't they be required to validate the debt to me? I sent them a letter requesting validation of the debt, and that they are acting on the behalf of CCity. What is their responsibility to prove to me that they are who they say they are, and not just a collection agency attny, etc. When she faxed me her letter giving the pmt arrangement, it was not on letterhead, and the fax machine info stated the name of the business was a cleaning service, hence my wariness. I am not opposed to paying the settlement, but I don't want to be conned into it, and want to know where it is going.
