If it was a regular credit card that you signed an application for,the SOL is 4 years,if it was an electronic application,or an unsolicited one for which you never actually signed an application,Cal. has a new 2 year limit. Send a regular validation/dispute letter,make sure you incude the phrase "this is not a refusal to pay" (this eliminates any future claim they may have of your admitting to the debt by saying you won't pay it)
