If the chargeoffs are more than two years old, get a copy of your CR from the 3 major CRAs and dispute the items. After 2 years, most companies purge their files and cannot verify the data. Most than likely, those items will be deleted. Afterwards, apply for the loan. Credit worthiness gives more weight with recent activity. Since your bad payment history is more than 2 years old, it will carry less weight. Last, large downpayments overcome most resistance to bad credit histories.
