I am not sure about this - logic says written contract. Most likely you should count from the date the original loan went delinquent.

However, I would pursue the other lines of defense. Demand proof from the original creditor that they complied with all those conditions when they repossessed and resold your car.

Were you given the proper notices? Were you given the chance to redeem within the proper time frame? How much did they sell the car for? How did they sell it? They are obligated to try to get the market value for the car...

If you can find things they did wrong, you can make them take this deficiency balance back and leave you alone.
