The first dispute to all three CRA's should be sent via certified mail. Always wait the 30 days for the dispute(s) to complete before disputing another item. This is very important. Also, mix it up a little: dispute via phone and online. When you dispute be honest, but creative (e.g. possible incorrect account number, wrong amount, last activity date incorrect, etc.) A zero balance on an older account have a much greater chance of being removed. Accounts at or past the SOL period also have a good chance of being removed. I don't know why but I have seen the most success (via message boards) with repossessions being deleted. I had a repossession deleted from all three CRA's - no problem. Accounts that are settled can be removed if you wait 90 days after settlement. This is when paid accounts are archived. Who wants to retrieved an archived tape to respond to a dispute. Validations do not always work. Sometimes it is best to just call the original creditor and give a "sob" story and 90 percent of the time they will remove the collection from your credit report. The ten percent is the one I am currently dealing with. I've had 6 collection accounts removed without validating. In a nutshell, let credit repair become an enjoyable hobby and you will find great success!! Good Luck!!
