Does any body know how long a hospital can attempt to collect a debt etc.? My mother has a $1330 bill from a hospital here in Kansas that for two years we never heard anything about. We assumed the insurance had paid it- (this is a lot more involved with the insurance mess but the bottom line is) the hospital never contacted us about the bill for about two years now suddenly we have gotten one very nasty letter from the hospital and now it has been turned over to a collection agency. Do we have any recourse? My mother draws social security and a small pension, I know they can't touch her social security but how about the pension. If we have to pay I can help some but they want the whole mess all at once and as badly as they have bungled this up I think they should eat the bill and if I can make it so I would like too. Any suggestions
