Paid in Full VS. Settled in Full?

Which looks better on a credit report and will result in a better credit rating? Paid in Full or Settled in Full. I am about to come into a large amount of money and pay off all my debts. Most of my debts that are "charged off" are over 3 years old. I am wondering if I should pay all of the balances in full or try to settle them. Bottom line - I want to do the best thing for my credit rating.
Any input is VERY helpful.
