I live in Illinois. Recently, I too received a letter that RMA was attempting to collect a debt from SEARS.

The interesting twist in this story is that I was divorced from my ex-wife in 1998 who was ordered to pay off the SEARS card since she maintained dominion over the card although it was it joint account.

She paid off the debt as ordered by the court, however, made a purchase for 34 and let it go into default and removed her name from the account.

Three years later, I received a statement from RMA charging me $289.00.

I filed a police report concerning fraud, have written RMA, SEARS consumer relations, the state's attorney in the state she resides and the state's attorney in the state the purchase was made.

I have provided the documentation that I was not responsible for the debt, and, conveyed that I did not have control of the card.

What to do?
