Just hung up with a rude creditor calling me at work!

Last week this creditor called me at work and I told them that another collector had this bill previously so why did they have it. They explained how they moved it to them. I asked them to send me something in writing because I refuse to pay them over the phone due to a bad experience previously. So he says, "well what does that have to do with us? Why put us all in the same boat because they made a mistake"..."are you going to pay or not, it says here you are not".. OK I never said that I didn't want to pay it. In fact I said that I wanted to take care of it and if they could send me something in writing I would appreciate that. They said last week that they would and now they are calling today saying it is noted that I disputed it. What can I do?
