If these are student loans (i.e. Stafford, Perkins or similar) SOL's "DO NOT" apply. Your friend needs to contact an ombudsman to negotiate. If your friend has a documented economic hardship she can apply for that to defer payment. If your friend ignores this unfortunately wages can be garnished. How old are the debts? Were they student loans or personal loans? What agency is this? O.S.I. (they are one of the big collectors for student loans and may also operate under Gulf State) - both are horrendous and to make matters even worse they violate federal collection laws.
