The last payment I was able to make to the original creditor was back in 2000.

Then my house burned down and I had a lot of problems receiving my mail. I moved several times (until my house was finally rebuilt), my 20 year old son moved in with friends. He received some of my forwarded pieces of mail which was an advertisement from a mediation company regarding a lawsuit that was filed against me. I still to this day do not know how he received it. But it should not surprise me, since my niece lived with me and after she moved, her mail kept being sent to me. Anyway, I contacted the debt mediation company since I was completely panicked, did not know who this First Select was and they said they would negotiate everything with this company. That was back in April/May 2001. First Select was supposed to send me paperwork to complete and agreements to sign and that would take care of everything. Well, I never received anything.

In the meantime, I moved again and again until my house was finally rebuilt.

By the way, I had just started a refinancing process a couple of days ago.

According to the credit report, First Select does not show up as a creditor. It is still showing Associates Bank of DE. I have not seen my actual credit report, yet, and do not know what the charge off date would be.

I should have gotten a name, but everything was kind of hectic when he called me at work and I was upset about the kids being involved.

Please explain what the following mean:
FTC
State AG's office
FDCPA

Also, another question. Since I do not know the time the summons will be served at my house, what happens if I am not here? Can anyone in the house accept it on my behalf? Also, in Georgia, can they serve me at work?
