Since you don't want to get your ex into trouble:
Why don't you get a home equity loan and set up legally with a lawyer , a re-payment structure for your ex wife.
This way you will get your money back and save her neck from prosecution.
This will also save your credit rating and the high interest charges that I am sure she is paying on all the credit card payments.
Everyone will be happy then.
