Ok, here it goes. I guess this is important (from reading on this message board), I live in Georgia.

Received phone call from debt collection agency, they were going to file a lawsuit against me. They claimed that they had sent me a collection notice (which I do not to this day remember ever seeing) that I never answered, so they filed suit in the county they thought I lived , but I moved, so they filed in another county, but I moved, then I moved back to the original county and they were going to serve me finally. It seems that they were filing just before I moved every time and I never was served. I did not make a secret of where I was living since I made sure that I left forwarding addresses with the post office every time I moved.

Anyway, currently I am trying to refinance or get a second mortgage to pay off all my old debts and any charge-off that I might have (since I am finally making more money). I had already started this process before this company called and was talking to a couple of mortgage companies who were going to qualify me for one of these credit reestablishment loans. I have not informed them yet of this possibly pending lawsuit.

I have about $80,000 in equity and own my car.

I am already making appointments to talk to a bankruptcy lawyer to get advise.

Is there anything else I should think off before I see a lawyer? I assume that this is the only option I have at the moment.
