If you settle for a certain percentage on the dollar you should have an attornery draw up the settlement agreement that includes removing any negatives credit lines from your credit reports. Do not make any agreements verbally because CA's will lie, lie, lie. This can potentially re-age the debt. As far as a lien on your house - the creditors have to go through the proper legal process in order to record a lien. They must provide you proper legal notice. You can check your property records in your local town records to see when and if a lien has been recorded. If you were never notified you may possibly be able to sue those creditors.
