If you can get enough equity out to clear up your debts, AND if you can avoid using ANY credit for any extended period of time (other than paying in full each month)AND if you can get back to work with a clear mind, it will be MUCH simplet to "clean" your credit. DO NOT make ANY "settlements" with ANYONE unless you have your lawyer handle the transaction. You are in a vulnerable state of mind, check around for the best deal on a 2nd. Make sure there are no hidden costs. Have your lawyer look at ALL documents before you close. It is worth the couple hundred $ she will cost you to get it done right.
