I think you are out of luck. Federal Student Loans "WILL NOT" be charged off. Go to the Sallie Mae website and search for info - also search Federal Perkins loans on Google or Yahoo. You can try speaking to an Ombudsman if you have an economic hardship. There is no SOL that I know of for student loans. They can garnish pay and tax return refunds as well.
