You are still within the SOL for being sued, (2004) that is why they are talking lawsuit. Paying it in full will NOT restart the reporting clock, settling will. If you make sure that they actually have the right to collect, and you get receipts,you will be in good shape. Ask them with your final payment if they would please not validate if you dispute with the CRA's.You have no leverage in this situation except extreme politeness, (something they seldom see, and therefore may be more inclined to accomodate)
