SOL on bad checks in Calif?

I found that there are a couple of very old NSF checks listed on my credit reports. I don't know if they have ever been paid and wonder if I should bother checking after all of these years. If I research and find they haven't been paid and pay them now will the recent "paid date" mean it will stay there another 7 years? Are they still collectable? Neither one is over $100. Also noticed that a utility company in 1999 reposted something from 1992. Can they do that?
