What type of student loan (Federal?, etc.)? If so, you can contact an ombudsman regarding this. You can also re-apply if you can demonstrate a continued economic hardship. Also get a copy of the completed deferment form from the lender. It's amazing how inaccurate & sloppy they are. I believe they have to meet federal guidelines. You can also write your Congressman for assistance. Word of advice: Any correspondence should be done by registered return receipt mail to document proof.
