I'm a 19 year old college kid, with a couple credit issues...help!

Please keep in mind that I am not sure how serious my credit issues are, but I would appreciate any advice or help any of you have. I got my first credit card ($1000, 1st Financial Bank) shortly after I turned 18... and then I got a cell phone account under my father's cosigning. And then I got a $12,000 car loan with my father's cosigning as well. All the payments with the above three credits were fine until I lost my job with Staples.com. I got a new job about two months later but my bills slacked during that time. My cellphone bill got up around $250 and after two months they stopped my service. I paid them off about a week after that, so my cellphone was only turned off for a week or so. My car payment was about a week late, so I had to pay a $30 late fee. And because my credit card was almost maxed out, the finance charges pushed me over-the-limit and I got slammed with a over-the-limit fee and a late fee as well as two months of finance charges, so I was sitting at about $1150 instead of $1000. Things were tight shortly after the two-month break and once again my car payment was delayed about a week before I could pay it so it was another $30 late payment added on. During all this time I was applying to every credit card without an annual fee that came to me in the mail...and you all can imagine how many credit card offers I get at my age. Sooo, now, I'd like to know how my credit is... everytime I apply for a new credit card, I get a letter back saying "no" and it usually has two reasons... 1.) Revolving balances too high on other accounts
2.) Too many credit checks in the past six months Sooo, I guess the revolving balance thing is because my only credit card is sitting right around $950 out of $1000 and I've applied to so many credit cards it has negatively affected my credit? Please help!
