In '92 I racked up an $1,100 debt with sears in Seattle. I moved to Boston in '93 and sears charged the account off in, I beleive, '95 (I've never paid the debt). I haven't heard from them in years and I'm pretty sure that the information has fallen off of my account. Consumerinfo.com only shows a recent account and no other info and last year when I financed a used car, he told me that I didn't have a credit history. My question is this: All of a sudden, out of the blue, a collection agency has sent me a letter trying to collect on the debt. I have 30 days to respond. Can they do this? If I respond, will it open a whole can of worms? Can they put this back on my credit report even though the 7 years is up? Can I just ignore it and move on? I've lived through 10 years of not being able to get any credit at all due to the charge off and I've just been able to start establishing it. I don't know what to do!!!
