I'm in Michigan. I had a cell phone with CenturyTel that was automatically charged to my Discover card. The card became maxed out & Discover didn't pay CenturyTel & the next thing you know, a collection company contacted me & now there was an additional $218 owed. I payed the $159 (through the collection agency but check made out to CenturyTel) but said I disputed the other amount ($218). Have not heard from this agency again. Another collection agency contacted me & I requested validation which I did not receive. So I sent them standard "cease/desist/etc." letter. Just received a new bill from CenturyTel saying $218 will be automatically charged to my Discover card on 6/10. Now the balance is low enough that the charge will clear. I contacted Discover, but they say I have to contact CenturyTel to have the auto payment stopped. I'm leary to contact CenturyTel because I don't trust them. I don't know what kind of scam they're pulling. Additionally, I had another cell phone with them at the same as this one that was always paid on time, etc. and yet when they cut this one off & sent it to collection they turned off the other one too. Any suggestions? (Sorry so long!)
