For those who think that opting out just ends credit card solicitation-- BIG SURPRISE- The same companies who search for "credit solicitation" also sell their information to collection agencies.So, if you have received a dunning notice from some ancient long forgotten bill, it is from the same source that sends you "pre-approved" credit cards. Here is how to "opt-out". With one phone call you can register with all three major credit bureaus, and the credit card companies will stop mailing you promotional offers either permanently or for a two-year period. Just call 1-888-5 OPT OUT, and follow the menu directions.
