You might be able to work something out with an Ombudsman (Federal Fin. Aid) or Inspector General. Be sure you have everything in order - not disorderly. Also write to your Congressman and legislators. If you have a justifiable economic hardship maybe you could get a deferment. Also, is the government the only lender or do you have unsusidized st.loans too? As far as talking on the phone is virtually worthless and you have nothing to document anything. Everything should be done in writing - registered return receipt.
