what specific lead to the default? the refusal of sallie Mae to deal with me overseas, I took three sallie for undergrad in usa, then came here to europe for grad, finished in 1993 and the payment books for all four ( 1 new one for grad) all went to moms in NY, well always paid on time,1993-1996 with AMEX money orders, then in the mid 96, big time money laudering controls were established, you could only get money orders in you had a AMEX card from usa or here, they only offered AMEX corporate cards at the time here, but then I moved to georgia for a few months, got a deferment, then moved back here, when time came to pay in 1997, there was still really no internet development,no direct deposit,no direct bill paying for them to take the money out of an usa acct, nothing, they couldnt and still dont offer me the chance to bank wire the payments,( only now western union quick pay, which isnt here anyway) they said they couldnt correspond with me overseas, have someone in the usa pay the bills for me, they wouldnt and never sent me anything on balance or nothing,, so I said to hell with it, what am I gonna do, I was then again in georgia for a few months in 1998, they never bothered me,,,,, ok,,, FAST forward the clock to today,, sallie Mae is out of the pic, its now the dept of ed/FAM CA in atlanta,,, I had zero activity from 3/1998 to 9/2001, then I got a providian and cap one card,,, with my perm usa address in NY,, WOW baby, like clockwork, the CAs for dept of ed came a hunting,,, to NY addresses tel number, harrassed the hell out of my parents ( more on that later) well at Xmas, I forwarded my mail at the post in NY,, within a week, the dept of ed/FAM had gotten the address here, and started sending letters here, picked up the phone, called dept of ed, said I was more than happy to enter 3 old sallie maes with you guys for rehab, then called FAM, entered this FABULOUS 3 combi loan rehab, with the CA fees waived at the end of the 12 months,, ( MORE THAN THE LOANS AMOUNT) I then send them a reg letter stating a wanted the original loan papers, an itemized list of the loans, with how much is going to interest, ( TAX DEDUC here) and a rehab agreement in writing that I wanted the three lines plus original 3 sallies updated, as per the higher ed act,,, when I pay 12 ontimes,,, well I never heard a word, or got anything in writing, I am going into the 4th month, and have no idea what the money is being applyed to, nothing on the Credit report, just under the three, they(FAM CA) updated 5/24/2002, every month since 7/97 collection acct, under each tradeline, its like 2 inchs thick,,,, but it didnt effect the score, but no update on payment, or last date pay was rec, nothing,,,,,, I jsut called Omibus, but there not open now,, and I also applyed for a PIN number from dept of ed online to see, where the hell the money is going if anywhere, you can see your payments,, ohhhh ok
