Linda, you can still validate after paying a CA. It is a little tricky, but it can be done. You are still under no contractual obligation to pay the "debt collector" - if you did not sign anything that says, "IS ASSIGNED". They are still in violation of the FDCPA for putting it on your credit report(s) if there is no contractual obligation between you and the "debt collector".
I would say that this is a "defamation" of character.
